The Real Unspoken Words

I appreciate that you feel the need to be the face of Borderline Personality Disorder. But in case you haven’t heard, we already have two wonderful woman in the world who has brought BPD to the media’s attention.

1) Marsha Linehan: Creator of Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, the most used therapy treatment for people with Borderline Personality Disorder. On June 23 of this year, during an interview with The New York Times, Linehan admitted to the newspaper of her own struggles with Borderline Personality Disorder. She has never before admitted to having the condition herself.

2) Susanna Kaysen: Author of Girl, Interrupted, a novel explain about the two years spent in the McLean Psychiatric Hospital after being diagnosed with Borderline Personality disorder. It was later adapted into a film staring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie.

I understand if you feel the need to represent the anger portion of your condition (Anger is not a major symptom as described by the media, depression is the number one symptom) and the male population of BPD (only 25% of diagnosed conditions are males) but you are surely not the FACE of Borderline. As a female who has BPD, does not experience anger because of it, and has been hospitalized and a member of DBT, I would greatly appreciate it if you did not feel the need to be the face of a huge part of my life.

I think you should do it. I absolutely love your work. Almost everything I’ve seen you make is so adorable.

While I completely admire your desire to teach me the information of your mastered degree, there is just too much information going into my very small cranium. I appreciate that you believe all this knowledge will be important to my future career as a Behavioral Therapist. But in your adventure of teaching me this desired information, you have also buried me in an amount of work that I don’t believe any student can fully finish. I’m sure you don’t know this since you do not communicate with each other, but in the next 3 weeks I have the following:

- 6 papers (3 in Theater Appreciation, 1 in Psychology, 1 in CRTW, 1 in Script Analysis, and 1 in Math)

- 3 exams (Script Analysis, Psychology, Theater Appreciation)

- 2 projects (2nd 1/2 of BMP project in Psychology and Group Project in MT Dance)

- 6 homework assignments (all in Math)

- 2 Dance Routines (MT Dance and Social Dance)

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m doing the work. I will not be giving up. But please understand why it may not be at the best quality and why I will not be paying attention to you in class for the next couple of weeks.

Let the torture begin!
